Be a Mann

Still plugging away at The Magic Mountain, mostly on the train and bus routes. There's an interplay between the Settembrini character and the author's style itself that suggests a mocking, intentionally supercilious style, creating a disconcerting effect particularly because of the density and idea-laden nature of the text. Finally saw Blade Runner (Final Cut) last Sunday and was fairly blown away. Despite the dragging moments and 'futuristic' soundtrack, the ideas explored were mind-boggling and the visuals are still astonishing, even after so many years. Also saw a quirky, low budg flick on Friday after work called Henry Fool. It held my attention even though at some point during the 'production' the budgetary constraints must have dictated that once the boom mike slipped into the screen, the takes could not be reshot, and therefore the mike remains atop the screen, moving from one character to another to catch their dialogue. A note about work - I took notes at a meeting today and there were some labor disputes discussed. It was quite depressing.
